Windows XP Home User Self-Defence Guide – Disabling unnecessary and potentially dangerous services

27 Sep

Another find in PCWorld. Windows XP Home User Self-Defence Guide – Disabling unnecessary and potentially dangerous services. I’m going through the list now and seeing what I can turn off on my system. Not only from a security point of view, but also from the “stop taking my resources” type of approach to the “win-bloat”.

– Update –
27 Nov 2004
It seems that the site is now off-line. I found it by doing a Google search on the terms “windows xp home user self-defense guide” and looking at the cached copy.

Kitta.net

I need to remember to come back to Kitta’s site and look at the other sites she visits… I think some of them might be interesting. Also I really like the flower in her desktop picture (Kitta.net – Images if it’s still the desktop she is using now)

scriptygoddess recent postings

Here are a few links to recent posts from scriptygoddess:

  • One form and two actions – this is where she has one form but wants to perform two actions… what she ends up talking about is actually passing vars between processes… kinda missnamed…
  • WP Plugin to taked down the site and stop comments. Looks like a neat plugin.
  • WP 1.3 plugins/hacks – And I didn’t even know that there was a WP 1.3…
  • Weblog Tools collection – Scripptygoddess had linked here when she commented on WP plugins/hacks. Looks like a good site.
  • online tutorials – Scripptygoddess was going to do some training for someone on the “ways of all things web” and she posted these links. I haven’t reviewed them yet but here they are.
