While reading Lilia’s blog I saw this post (My Friday 5: bloggers I’d love to meet) and this got me to thinking not only about who I would pick as my “5 bloggers” (and I’ll agree with Lilia that this list would be a “first five” and not a complete list) but also about this type of list posting. I already did one post like this and I’m still not 100% sure about it.
This goes into the area of “if you could have dinner with any 5 people who would you invite” discussion. And to be honest I don’t know if I know 5 ‘bloggers’ well enough to invite over… well, that didn’t come out right… Let’s say that I don’t know that I know 5 ‘bloggers’ well enough to feel that they would want to have dinner with me… no… that still isn’t right… it’s more of the fact that… while I would love to have dinner with them I don’t know if it wouldn’t be a total 1 way conversation… And I think that’s what my big issue is…
For example, I’ve talked to Clay on a couple of topics, but if we were to sit down how much for a couple of hour discussion then how much of it would be me “nodding my head” at things and how much would it be me actually engaging in the conversation. I guess in many ways I feel very much the “newbie” in the world of blogs and for the most part I’ve been “stuck in my day-to-day” that I don’t always feel comfortable talking with “the big boys”… But it’s possible that as I “stretch my wings” that I’ll move past that… I mean, I got over my “fear” of Generals in the AF. Not long after I got in I did some paintings on the walls of my unit and the 3-star was coming though and wanted to talk to the people who had done these murals. And while I was there, shaking his hand and talking to him I realized that this guy is just “a guy, like me, who puts his pants on one leg at a time” (to borrow the saying) and while I respect the rank, and all, there’s no reason to “fear” him…
Bottom line is, here is a list of people that I would love to “have over for dinner” or even over a long coffee somewhere…
- Clay – As I said before we’ve talked on a couple of issues
- Liz – I think the work she’s doing with blogs in the academic world is fantastic
- Lilia – Because of the great things she posts, get me to thinking (and she pointed out the Friday 5
- Robert Scoble – How can you not want to spend time with this guy… I mean… anyone with a job title of “technical evangelist”…
- Heather – for her “How to Charm/Annoy Me” sections… always makes me laugh (Not everything is techie…)
Also, here is a link to the Livejournal The Friday Five group (I registered, I’m not 100% sure that you have to if you want to see what’s going on in there or not… *shrug*).
