Engineering Game

26 Jan

I was reading download squad.com and here is their post about a game (their Time Waster) and the reason that I’m posting it here is more for the look-and-feel of the game and thoughts of what we might be able to do at work on a different project than anything else.  But if you are interested take a look at their post and look at the game they are pointing out.  They are actually asking it see if anyone else had played it or if anyone understands how to play it…  enjoy.

update:  Ok.  Now I’ve played the game once.  The steps I think I took (and I didn’t write them down when I did it… sorry) were: Battery, Computer chip, Mechanical, Environmental, Architecture, Civil Engineering, Aeronautics, and then Applied Chemistry.  But I could be wrong on the actual sequence.  I did get to the 2nd level without any problem.

update 2:  Here is the site where the game came from.  The build I did didn’t work, but on the original post there is the actual solution to the game/puzzle.  http://www.eyezmaze.com/

Layers TV

26 Jan

Wow, "learn something new every day" seems to be something that keeps happening to me all the time.  And here is another one.  Apparently Layers magazine has their own TV site.  I’ve been watching the Photoshop TV for years but didn’t know that there was a Layers mag site.  Now I know there is one and here is the site with the latest one http://www.layersmagazine.com/tv.html.  Also as of the time of this writing the latest one is episode #19.

Free Advanced DHTML Color Picker

26 Jan

I’ve been a fan of COLOURlovers for a long time.  And it seems that that they have built a color picker that you can use on their site or you can bring it to your own site.  If you want to see the post on their site (where you can also find the way to add it to your site) go here. I haven’t put it on my site yet, but I’m thinking about it.

Amy Editor

26 Jan

One of the items I found while looking at my feed list what I think is a set of libraries that allows you to have an expanded editor in a text field/textarea on your web page. The site for the Amy Editor is here. While I like the look of it I don’t think I’ll include it here.

Creative resources on the Web

24 Jan

I remember seeing the original post last year by James Dempsey. I just came across his updated list. I haven’t gone through it yet, but as I do I’m going to see about adding things that are my list of “to view” sites that aren’t on his list. That is to say if I have any. To be honest I doubt that I’ll have any on my list that isn’t on his.

Update:
I’m going through the list now and here are my comments on each of the ones that James included:

  • WebAppers (RSS feed) – I don’t remember seeing this site before, but it’s on my list now.
  • Freelance Switch (RSS feed) – I’ve been reading Freelance Switch for a long time. Not only have I really enjoyed some of the articles but I’ve also passed on some of the information to others. Saundra is someone who works freelance jobs from time to time and I’ve passed on some of the posts to her, for example.
  • Smashing Magazine (RSS feed) – Actually I have Smashing Magazine on my list right now. But it’s only been there for a short time. I picked it up from a shared item from Larry.
  • The Graphic Mac (RSS feed) – I don’t remember ever seeing The Graphic Mac before. But with a quick glance at the items that show up in the feed I’ve seen some of the items noted in other feeds in the blog-sphere. I’m including it in my feed list but we’ll see if it stays, or it may stay and I might drop some other ones that have the same type of information.
  • BittBox (RSS feed) – BittBox is another one that I’ve had on my feed list for awhile. I like the feed and will keep it on my list.
  • PSDTuts (RSS feed) – I’ve known about and traveled to the PSD Tutorials site for a long time. But I never had it on my list of feeds. I have a bunch of feeds with tutorials that are related to Photoshop. But at a quick glance I think I’ll add to to my list for now.
  • Ads of the World (RSS feed) – This is another of the I never heard of it but I have similar items on my list already things. As with the others I’ve included it on my “look at/review” list to see if I keep it when I compare it to the other links that I have with similar information. We’ll see.

And that’s it for my comments on this list. I’ll see about putting some of the feeds that I already have that are similar in the future.
